In July 2017, the Panel of the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry into the abuse of children in the Island’s care system over many years, published their final report. This report incorrectly stated the care home called La Preference in Jersey was owned and/or run by the Vegetarian Society for 33 years between 1951 and 1984. The organisation that was involved with this care home’s running was called the Vegetarian Children’s Charity, later to become the Vegetarian Charity. This is a completely separate organisation to the Vegetarian Society. The Vegetarian Society did not run, own, manage, or employ anyone at, the La Preference care home at any time.

The Vegetarian Society first contacted the Panel of the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry in July 2017 (and numerous times after) in an attempt to have this error corrected. To date, this has not resulted in a correction, and the Vegetarian Society is continuing its efforts to have this report amended to reflect the facts.
