A new poll commissioned by BBC Good Food found that 21 per cent of children would like to be vegetarian.
Richard McIlwain, Chief Executive of the Vegetarian Society, said: “It’s great to see young people leading the way when it comes to taking action for the future of our planet. Switching to balanced vegetarian and vegan diets is something that everyone can do to as a means of lowering their carbon footprint. Of course, with young people now growing up surrounded by an ever-increasing range of healthy, sustainable and tasty plant-based foods, the idea of not eating meat is becoming more mainstream. Hopefully, their leadership can act as a beacon for many others.”
