Christmas is just around the corner and it might feel like you’ve still got loads to do! You might have had a think about what you’re going to eat for your main course but you probably haven’t had a chance to think about the after dinner cheese board. Or perhaps since turning vegan you’ve tried to keep cheese out of your thoughts? Fear not – we’ve got you covered!
We’ve had a good old root through our ever-increasing list of products, licensed to carry the Vegetarian Society Approved vegetarian and vegan trademarks, to come up with a festive cheese board selection you can really trust.
Bute Island – Wensleydale Style with Cranberries
Yes you read that properly, this is vegan! Bute Island make great vegan cheese, loads to choose from if you wanted a completely plant-based selection, but when it comes to Christmas cheese – Wensleydale with cranberries is the one!
Cheshire Cheese Company – Caramelised Onion & Rioja Mature Cheddar
Nowadays lots of cheeses are vegetarian-friendly – but if in doubt look for Cheshire Cheese Company, all their cheeses are vegetarian and accredited by us! This one is flavoured with red wine and sweet caramelised onions giving it a rich tangy flavour.
Rakusen’s – Hi Bake Traditional Cracker UK
We’ve sorted the cheese, now we need something to eat it off! Yorkshire-based Rakusen’s have a great range of different crackers. We’ve picked this one as it’s cooked for longer in their flame-baking ovens for a richer, deeper colour and flavour. Although they’ve been accredited our vegetarian criteria, we can confirm they are suitable for vegans too.
Kitchen Garden Foods – Traditional Piccalilli
Piccalilli isn’t normally the go-to chutney around Christmas time but trust us on this one from Kitchen Garden Foods! First you’ll taste hot peppery mustard then you’ll crunch through cauliflower and gherkins and be left with a sweet and sour flavour from the cider vinegar that brings the whole thing together.
Shepherd Neame – Christmas Ale
Now for something to wash it all down with… Beer, like cheese, can be tricky as some aren’t vegetarian. Look out for Shepherd Neame when shopping, as lots of them are licensed to carry our Vegetarian Society Approved vegetarian trademark. This is a cockle-warming Christmas ale, a great addition to their solid selection of classic brews.
