From plant-based party plates to veg-packed centrepieces, we’ve rounded up the best vegetarian and vegan Christmas foods in the shops this winter.
When it comes to Christmas, it’s hard to beat traditional staples: think mince pies, party food, and flavoursome yet filling centrepieces – plus all the trimmings, of course. And now, thanks to a combination of increasing customer demand and supermarket innovations – lots of meat-eaters are joining vegetarians in buying meat-free products for Christmas. Sainsbury’s noted a 54% increase in demand last year.
This is good news for vegetarians as supermarkets have stepped up accordingly this year, introducing a number of new products, from meat-free pigs in blankets to turkey-free crowns.
And, while we may not know exactly how Christmas may look this year, that hasn’t stopped the shops putting forth an impressive array of party and finger foods; from jackfruit-filled bao buns to duckless spring rolls, you’re guaranteed to find something for everyone, no matter how you will be spending the big day.
