For Giving Tuesday, back in December, we asked members and supporters to help fund a community cookery class for people who have experienced domestic abuse.
You were all so generous, and donated an amazing £1,223 – which was more than double the original goal! This means we are able to deliver two cookery classes, reaching even more people.
The first class took place in February. Vegetarian Society Cookery School tutor, Maz and assistant cookery school manager, Ngwafu, visited the Sahara project run by Women’s Aid. The women had a great day cooking lots of veggie and vegan dishes, including a Persian Herb, Chickpea and Kale Stew.
The women in the group said the teaching was great, and they learnt valuable new skills, such as the importance of fresh food and cooking great food with simple ingredients. They also commented it helped them improve kitchen skills such as chopping.
The Sahara group really enjoyed learning how to make new dishes and cooking wholesome and delicious food with people in a similar situation as themselves. Everyone enjoyed the day, and was enthusiastic to have more sessions in the future.
Thank you for making this happen!
If you want to help fund more community cookery classes like this, give what you can and make a donation today.
