Earlier in the year we worked with Sahara Women’s Aid project based in Manchester which helps women who are living with, or fleeing, domestic abuse. Domestic abuse can have a huge effect on someone’s confidence, and make them feel alone and anxious about the future.
Uzma, who runs the Sahara project, says that the women really enjoyed the session with the cookery school and valued learning how to make new veggie dishes while they were going through a difficult time.
During our sessions with the Sahara project, cooking helped the women to relax and reminded them of the skills they have and how they can be independent. Learning to cook veggie and vegan food gives them something new to focus on and helps them to look forward to the future. Working in a group not only builds trust; it also creates new support networks for the women.
We want to put on more cookery classes but we cannot do it without your help.
You’ve been amazing, raising £835 which will provide a cookery class for women who have experienced domestic abuse. You are already half way to funding a second community cookery class – so this Giving Tuesday let’s do it!
PayPal is adding 10% to your donations this Giving Tuesday. If you donate through PayPal your donation will go even further!
Giving Tuesday is a day where everyone, everywhere can do something to support a cause that they believe in. It’s a day to give back and do something for community groups, helping those who need it the most.
