What did you eat when you first left home? Jacques Brennan is back with a brand new book aimed at young adults, ready to change beans on toast dinners with some fresh, home-cooked feasts!
‘Hungry Soul’ is filled with straightforward, tasty, vegan food that spans all cooking abilities. This makes it perfect for university students, teens or young professionals who want to get started in the kitchen. The book starts off with preparation techniques before moving on to soup, sandwiches and a whole range of food for the soul. It’s all so easy to do – it makes me wish I’d had this book when I first left home!
The book’s vibrant, hand-drawn illustrations make you feel like you’re reading a helpful journal and give it a real homely feel. I really enjoyed the simplicity to the book’s style and the little asides where Jacques thanks his friends and family for contributing recipes – they’re a really thoughtful touch. The author takes into account that young people might be using more basic ingredients, but also encourages them to experiment a bit more with things like making pies from scratch and delicious chocolate dates.
Most of ‘Hungry Soul’ is split into handy sections like recipes for brunch, meeting the parents and hanging out with friends, making it perfect for so many occasions. With recipes this simple and hearty, why not give one a go and seriously impress your housemates.
