It’s been a whirlwind of a summer for the Vegetarian Society Cookery School. Our expert tutors have travelled the country to give world-class cookery demonstrations and wow the crowds with a taste of the best veggie and vegan food around.
Now with autumn in the air, we take a look back at our festival appearances from the past couple of months. Check out what we got up to this summer!
Tatton Park RHS Flower Show
Knutsford, Cheshire
At the end of July we joined the Tatton Park RHS Flower Show to showcase veggie and vegan cooking to the bubbling crowd. The day was a bed of roses as we gave veggie cookery demonstrations to flower lovers who came down for the sunny weekend.
The event took place in the sprawling grounds of Tatton Park which is home to a 2,000 acre deer park, a medieval mansion and its very own farm. The Flower Show offered a fabulous day out bursting with colourful gardening inspiration, fun family activities, have-a-go workshops and boutique shopping.
When people were done filling up their bags with goodies it was time for Sam to help them gain brand new skills to top up their repertoire of veggie dishes.
Nantwich Food Festival
Nantwich, Cheshire
Over the weekend of 30 August to 1 September, the town of Nantwich was transformed into a food-lover’s paradise for the Nantwich Food Festival. With three marquees full of top-quality food and drink brought by producers from across the region, the festival really did have something for everyone.
At the festival, our tutors led cookery demonstrations throughout the day so everyone could learn to make incredible new dishes and expand their veggie knowledge. They made Loaded Vegan Mac and Cheese made in three exciting ways: topped with steamed brassica and vegan cheese; Italian style with sun-dried tomato, fresh basil, vine tomatoes and vegan pesto; and Tex Mex-pulled Oumph! with jalapenos, crispy onions, chilli sauce.
Greenbelt Festival
Kettering, Northamptonshire
This year, Greenbelt Festival at Broughton House near Kettering hosted its 46th event. The festival saw 24 stages, galleries, installations and outdoor performances all in the spirit of inclusivity and open-mindedness.
Head of the Vegetarian Society Cookery School, Sam – along with Emma from the Vegetarian Society – cooked up a treat inside the tent where tasty, ‘planet-saving’ Beetroot and Chilli Burgers were a firm favourite from the menu. It’s not hard to see why!
