On Wednesday 19 June 2019, we sent a witness to deliver your views to a publically broadcasted House of Lords committee.
The House of Lords committee was convinced by the arguments that members and supporters raised about the proposed EU bill. Witnesses around the table unanimously agreed that the current naming conventions are clear and easy to understand and should not be changed.
Thanks to your feedback, the House of Lords has now written to agriculture minister, Robert Goodwill, to recommend the proposal should be rejected. Lord Teverson, chair of the committee, said:
“We are concerned that the amendment would in fact reduce consumer clarity, be a barrier to growth for a burgeoning sector of the food industry, and ultimately make it more challenging for people to reduce the amount of meat in their diet at a time when Government should be seeking to encourage the opposite.”
We’d like to thank everyone who shared their view. The House of Lords expect a response from the government soon and we’ll keep you informed.
